To Understand a Tree was a solo exhibition at the Museum for Art in Wood (Philadelphia PA), curated by Jennifer-Navva Milliken, and on view from March 1 - July 21, 2024. Titled after the ongoing project of the same name, and developed as an artist in residence at the MacLeish Field Station of Smith College starting in 2018, this exhibit consisted of sculpture, video, and multimedia site-based work. The work was inspired by reflection on the core themes of the project: the relationship between humans and trees, forests as ecosystemic communities, the ethical complexities of harvesting materials from living beings in nature, and the cultivation of an embodied and intellectual sense of knowledge about and kinship with the more-than-human world.
